The USDA released their latest update from across the pecan growing regions in the US showing farmgate pecan prices, pecan imports, and weather conditions in the growing regions. 

Cooler temperatures are setting in across the south and rain begins to set in in the eastern producing states. Pecan harvest seems to be much lower in areas this year with Louisiana, parts of Texas and Oklahoma reporting a smaller crop in orchards this year. 

In the two major regions, Georgia and the western area of Arizona, New Mexico West Texas Mesilla Valley area, growers are reporting an average of between $2.85 – $3.00 per point. 

 

Pecan Prices as reported by the USDA AMS January 17, 2023 Pecan Report: 

Georgia: 

• Lots of 20,000 lbs or less:
  • Native Seedlings (deliveries very light) yard tree lots 60-65 
  • Desirables (deliveries light) export quality 50% meat yield or better 170-175, yard tree lots 100-120 
  • Elliott (deliveries very light) yard tree lots 100-120
  • Moneymakers (deliveries very light) yard tree lots 50-60 
  • Schley (deliveries very light) yard tree lots 90-100 
  • Stuarts (deliveries very light) 48% meat yield 150-155, yard tree lots 90-100
• Lots over 20,000 lbs: 
  • Desirables (deliveries light) export quality 50-53% meat yield 170-175

Louisiana: 

• Lots of 20,000 lbs or less:
  • Native Seedlings (deliveries very light) machine harvested 85-115 few high as 120, yard tree lots 75-85 
  • Elliott (deliveries very light) machine harvested 130-140, yard tree lots 90-100

Oklahoma: 

• Lots of 20,000 lbs or less:
  • Natives/Seedlings (deliveries very light) machine harvested 42% or better 125 occasional higher, yard tree lots 50-70

Texas: 

• Lots of 20,000 lbs or less:
  • Native/Seedlings (deliveries very light) yard tree lots 75 
  • Improved varieties: too few sales to establish market prices.
• Lots over 20,000 lbs: 
  • Improved varieties: too few sales to establish market prices.

Arizona, New Mexico and West Texas:

• Lots of 20,000 lbs or less:
  • Western Schley (deliveries very light) 55-60% meat yield 165-180
