The pecan market has opened strong but was short lived as domestic commercial buyers and shellers make few offers at lower prices as many growers decline the lower offers and have opted to wait until prices recover.
Pecan inventories have been waning as fewer pecans were produced last year and the year prior saw record shipments to end users. Growers have been watching the markets and are waiting until buyers increase farm gate prices.
The market is just now seeing action as harvest is still just getting underway, but this year we may see more growers opting to go straight to cold storage with their pecan crop until buyers utilize current inventories.
