Rarely do highly productive properties with an established reputation become available for purchase. They are typically kept within a family or sold without ever going to market.
The Wetherbee family will soon be releasing bid packages, to qualified buyers, for its pecan farms and farming operations located in Mitchell and Dougherty County. The farms are celebrating their 101st year of operation this year.
The property consists of 3,950 (+/-) total acres. There are currently 2,600 (+/-) acres of pecan orchards with additional acreage (820 +/- acres) available for expansion. All of the pecan farming equipment will be included in the sale. In addition to the orchards, approximately 150,000 pecan nursery trees will be available for purchase as well. The property and related operations also include a pecan cleaning plant with 40,000 lbs. per hour cleaning capacity and 4.5 million lbs. of storage capacity. Mr. Wetherbee is committed to working with the existing staff and management to offer a smooth transition to the new owner(s).
The scale of the property involved would typically exclude many buyers; however, Mr. Wetherbee has decided to offer the orchards to be bid on separately or as a whole package to allow for smaller growers to participate in the bidding process.
The orchards have been intensively and strategically managed with newer varieties and high density plantings to allow for maximum pecan production per acre. Mr. Wetherbee and his team have put together a comprehensive bid package which contains detailed information about each of the properties being offered for sale, including tree counts with detailed age and variety information. A comprehensive production model will also be included in the bid package.
If you or someone you know is looking for well managed pecan orchards or a complete turn key operation this is an opportunity that you will want to investigate. I can speak from experience, this type of opportunity is quite rare in our industry.
